  The Tuesday night menus sound like gourmet dining—from appetizer to desserts—and the taste is superb. Yet, unlike typical fine dining, the dishes are each based on rice one week, beans another, while grains are the mainstay the next. Not only that, but the diners’ are treated to a free demonstration of how each dish is cooked, and can purchase the ingredients to recreate the meals at home.

The free demonstrations is just one way FoodWise , a new Gilbert food storage and emergency preparedness store, is unique and customer-friendly.

“Our goal at Foodwise is to provide a complete food storage supply of various dried foods and emergency preparedness supplies to individuals who recognize the value of preparedness for their families,” says the company’s web site.

FoodWise—owned by husband and wife, Brent and Kristi Averett, of the Western Skies War in Gilbert Greenfield Stake—opened in January. The Averett’s goal is to offer the best possible ingredients, equipment and pricing to an economic conscience community.”

Kristi says they operate with very low margins, always passing he greatest value possible on to the customer.

“We got tired of paying high price, too,” she says.

While keeping the prices down, they are determined to keep the quality up. “We take a different angle on the term ‘food storage’, “ she says. Rather than seeing people spend $2,000 or $3,000 or more on canned goods that they put under their beds or some other hard-to-get-at-place, Kristi says, “We want people to create a ‘Food store’,” where items are accessible and used.

FoodWise has a large selection of freeze-dried foods, and grains, packed in pint, quart, half gallon or gallon–size PETE containers–clear plastic jars that are air-proof, odor-proof and moisture-proof and are BPA free.

In addition to a wide selection of food and grains, FoodWise also carried dehydrators, pressure cookers, juicers, kitchen mills, water drums, emergency kits and disaster preparedness products.  They also carry a full line of Mr. KnifeGuy, kitchen and hunting knives.

“We love helping people create ‘food store’ solutions. “ Kristi says. “That’s why we have the classes, we have all our recipes online and I even do a lot of on-on-one demonstrations, showing people from start to finish what steps they need to follow.”

Kristi also does demonstrations for Church or community groups. The averts say they and many of their customers, have found tremendous benefits from using a “food store” approach, “saving up to 50 percent on their grocery bill and feeling better besides.” Kristi says.

FoodWise is located at 854 E Williams Field Rd #105 (Lindsay and Williams Field) in Gilbert and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10AM to 7 PM; Saturday 10AM to 6PM.
